Good afternoon all
I hope you are well. The sun is shining today, it’s blue sky up above, and aching limbs inside as I have just spent a couple of hours in my garden pulling out more weeds. Where do they all come from?! And why do I let it get so weedy?! So to cheer myself up and encourage my limbs to seize completely, I decided to sit down and make a card.
I noticed that the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge this week is all about stencils. Well it would be rude not to wouldn’t it? So, here is my card for today:
I hauled (and I am not kidding, it’s quite heavy) my “box of unused stuff” up onto my craft desk and rifled through my unused stencils. I found this pretty 6″ x 6″ stencil from Imagination Crafts and thought I would do a little bit of ink blending. I don’t use this type of stencil often, I mostly use stencils for backgrounds, but this image stands on it’s own.
I secured it to my work surface with low tack painters tape and used a combination of sponge daubers and my round ink blending tool to add colour, using masks to cover the bits I didn’t want to add colour to as I went along. I kept the colour palette fairly simple, just pink, green and purple as they are the colours I like best in my garden in the summer.
Once I had finished inking, I pulled up the stencil and had a look. I love this bit, it seriously is like magic and every time I do this, it’s so exciting! At this point I decided to go back and add a few more touches of ink to try and give the leaves and flowers a bit more variation.
Lastly, I heat embossed the Clearly Besotted sentiment in white onto vellum. As is normally the case with sentiments, I changed my mind and did it again in gold which looked really pretty against the pink and green. I also heat embossed a couple of little hearts onto the vellum at this point. I attached the vellum to the panel by securing it at the back and then adhered the whole thing onto a square 6″ x 6″ card base.
Lastly, I added a few pink and gold sequins to finish the card off.
I am entering this card into this week’s challenge at Simon Says Stamp which is called “Stencil It”. I am also going to enter it as another piece of homework for the Online Card Classes Clear and Sheer class that I have been taking this week. I cannot recommend this course enough, it has been fabulous and I have been taught lots of new ways to use vellum and acetate.
Thank you for stopping by, thank you for all your comments, they are much appreciated and welcome.

Gorgeous! Simply gorgeous! I love the way the colours change and blend into each other. You really are doing fabulous things on this course. It’s nice and one layer too which makes it brilliant for posting! Love the gold on the vellum – definitely better than the white. Xx
