Good afternoon friends!
Today I have something a little different for you. Darnell Knauss has recently announced her latest Boo Boo/NBUS challenge on her blog, you can read all about it here. If you don’t follow Darnell you really should, she is a hoot and I always enjoy reading her blog and seeing all her wonderful cards.
To summarise, Darnell’s latest challenge is all about sharing those Boo Boo moments in cardmaking… and I have many! Far too many! I knew the challenge was coming up soon, so saved a project from a few weeks back, plus I have a bonus entry which fortuitously happened today!
It all started to go wrong when I sat down this afternoon, not really knowing what to make. And not being able to see properly. You can see where this is going can’t you? To give a little context to the situation, I wear contact lenses which are not as good as my glasses and although varifocal, are pretty useless for close up work and I find myself continually rocking backwards and forwards trying to see what I am doing.
I picked up my NBUS box, and a stamp that I was given recently for my birthday. I thought I would make a birthday card for my sister. Let’s just say, both of us are constantly watching our weight so it was a good image for her. I trotted over to my pre-cut cardstock and picked up some card.
Here is the first stamped image.
I stamped it up using the MISTI, cleaned everything up and put it all away and then added some colour from my Ziggies to the first cozzie, raring to go at this point. Picked up my waterbrush and the colour wouldn’t move. So I added a little more colour, and the same thing happened. It was then I realised I had picked up the wrong cardstock and that the pigment did not stand a chance of moving around. That got thrown in the remnants drawer….. and out came all the supplies again.
And here is the second stamped image.
Well, there were so many errors here, I can’t begin.
- I had not really thought through my colour scheme, or thought about whether I had skin tone colours. First mistake. So I merrily coloured away and then came to the skin and only had one Zig colour suitable. So I kept slapping it on trying to make some shading and finally added some brown (mid brown as it’s the only one I have) which just made them look like they walked through mud.
- I did not have many hair colours, so was really restricted with these too. The lady in the pink had hair like Coco the Clown at one point but I managed to shove some more muddy brown in it to tone it down. It’s now a slightly muted neon orange 🙂
- The cheeks – well, there are no words to describe what happened here. Every colour I own was too bright, and I had impatiently added what I thought was a watered down red/pink on top of the not dried muddy skin, so they all bled. The lady in the green cozzie actually looks like her face has lost some skin in a horrible accident as I tried to dab the colour off and smudged it further.
- There is bleeding everywhere on the image! Some days the ziggies just don’t go well and I am too impatient for them.
Apart from that it went well!! This work of art has also been consigned to the bin.
And I haven’t forgotten to show you the problems from a few weeks ago :-).
After diligently watercolouring a bookmark for a friend, I stamped her name onto it and dropped the acrylic block. Naturally it didn’t fall to the side of the bookmark, but right on top of it. On the second bookmark I decided not to colour it until after I had stamped her name, good job too, as I dropped the block again on the second bookmark. And yes again, it did not land anywhere other than on the cardstock! All in the space of 3 minutes 🙂
I hope you enjoy playing along. There are some/many days things do not go well in cardmaking, plenty of Boo Boo’s, many Boo Hoo’s, and occasionally a Woo Hoo! So I shall stay philosophical. “I won’t think about that today, I’ll think about that tomorrow” said Scarlett O’Hara. I know how she feels.
Thank you for stopping by! I will be back soon with what I hope will be a more successful project.

Oh my, Lisa…I so enjoyed your post and can relate on several levels, I, too, wear contacts – super strong for my near-sightedness – and the older I get, the more challenging to see ‘up close’ when wearing them. I refuse to put readers over top, even though that would likely be a smart solution (call be stubborn!) My glasses (which make my eyes look like little pinpricks…so not flattering…bless my husband for putting up with me. Natural beauty? HA! NOT!). aren’t much better, unless I slide them down my nose. Because my prescription is strong, I’m worried that bifocals would lead to motion-sickness, so.. up and down, up and down is my chosen alternative. Let’s just say that, for the sake of ‘visuals’ it’s best I craft on my own *grin* Second, my zigs and I have NOT forged a relationship whatsoever, so although yours were uncooperative, you’ve created one fabulous group of gals, in my books (and yes, I can see your card clearly!). The dropped sentiments…yep, Been there, done that a zillion times. It’s one thing when the image isn’t coloured, but when it is…weeping! Thanks for the smiles this morning!

Oh my, Lisa! I was laughing (with you, not at you) reading this post! You brought back (not so long ago) memories with both of your boo boo cards.
Thanks for poking fun at what is not-so-funny-at-the-time-it-happens-to-us!

Oh, that is always so distressing when you have a day when nothing goes as planned. And, as to dropping a block I did that a lot and even when using a Misti I dropped a wet stamp onto my design. But it was far enough out of the way that I could die cut it out of the scene. Whew! Thanks for sharing. And, let’s hope things go better from now on for all of us.

Well, they just have a good suntan! This was a fun post, and your card really does like cool, perfect for a weight watcher too. It’s always encouraging to see that others can do the same kind of sany things that I do. Usually my eye doesn’t spot it, but the camera does. I share anyway, and hope it will encourage somebody else, or at least show them what to avoid!!! So any boo-boo is a lesson opportunity, yes?

Oh Lisa, I have laughed so much at this – you write it so well, like I’m there in the room sighing and grumbling and swearing with you. Their cheeks really do crack me up! I think I’ll bookmark this post and whenever I’m feeling miserable I’ll read it because it is such a good post. You are a real trouper for sharing. I am upset about Snow’s bookmark though, I know how that feels. I dropped a whole ink pad onto something I coloured once. Oh the air was blue! BLUE! xx

Oh, good grief, Lisa, you’ve made my sides ache!! YOU are a hoot!! Although, seriously, your ladies wouldn’t have made me bat an eye cuz a couple of generations ago ladies actually put rouge on like! Maybe they had just finished a mud bath on spa day? (Cept no self-respecting spa would have scales on the premises!!!) As for dropping the block … I only have two words for you: MISTI and WODKA! Thanks so much for being a great sport and enthusiastically sharing your boo-hoos!! Love ya, Darnell

My first thought when I saw your girlfriends image was simply how much I loved it. Then, as I read along I had to laugh with you. Still, I love the end result and I’m sure I would have kept it. What a fun read! You are very good at what you do!
