Hello friends
I am back today with a birthday card for you, and I have finally opened my Altenew Dahlia Layering stencils! These were one of my purchases from months ago that I mention in my latest haul video. This year I am trying to get better at using what I have bought as so often I don’t do enough with my supplies. So I am very happy to use this set. And I have used it more than once – so a double tick for me!
What I love most about these stencils is the size of the flowers. They cover a panel really well and I think they are very impactful. For my card I decided to use just one colour for the blooms.
I started by taping Stencil A down over some Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock and blending Altenew Deep Iris ink through it. Stencil A forms the basis of the flower and it can be used on its own as well. I removed that stencil, and then aligned Stencil B, taped it down and ink blended Altenew Midnight Violet ink through that.
I added some Tonic Nuvo Aqua shimmer to the inked sections that were blended with the darker colour and trimmed the panel down slightly, so that I would have a white border on one side – this just adds a little bit of extra interest to the design.
Next I adhered the inked panel to a Neenah 110lb base card with DST and then cut a strip of vellum which I wrapped around the panel and secured at the back, also with DST. So that you don’t see any adhesive or the ends of the vellum on the inside of the card, I added another piece of white cardstock over the top to hide it.
I die cut the word happy from black cardstock and carefully adhered it over the top of the panel. I then put the whole card into my MISTI and stamped the birthday sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black Ink onto the vellum and left this to try – this is an important step as the ink stays wet for some time and I smudged it more than once as I was impatient!
Lastly I added a few sparkling sequins from Studio Katia, and that finishes my card for today. There are so many options with this stencil and I have another card coming up soon which uses it in a different way.
Thank you for stopping by, I wish you all a fabulous week – it’s very sunny here – and it’s so welcome!

I saw this stencil set on Saturday and was so tempted but I resisted. Had I seen this first, I may not have been so good! This is beautiful. The inks blend really nicely onto the card stock through it and the dimension you get from just the two inks is amazing. Works really well with that black sentiment to contrast. Well done you on using up your supplies!! xx
