Hello friends
Welcome to Rubeena’s Crafting Anniversary 2-Day Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from the super inspiring and lovely Amy Kolling but there is a full blog hop list at the end if you have got lost along the way.
This hop is epic with more than 70 guests and over $1,000 in sponsored prizes! Not only are we celebrating four years since Rubeena first discovered cardmaking but also crafting in general. This industry is made up of wonderful individuals who are creative, inspirational, kind, and incredibly supportive! Hop along so you can learn about why we create and how much joy it brings us!
So how do I know Rubeena? Well, I first got to “meet” Rubeena back in March when she was a guest on the Clearly Besotted Design Team. I was blown away by her amazing talent and work ethic – she was 8 months pregnant in March and in April, in her second month of Guest Designing for Clearly Besotted, she gave birth just before her cards were due and still managed to create them! Yep – unreal! But what I really love about Rubeena is her kindness and her support to others in the community. She is very encouraging to crafters, whatever stage of their learning they are at. That is to be celebrated!
You can read about how I got into crafting in the About Me section linked at the top of my blog – it truly has been a great hobby to get into, I have met so many friends and learned so much along the way! It all started with a card kit from John Lewis for me…. a very very basic kit, but it must have spurred me on and away I went! I’ve never looked back and it has become a big part of my life that brings me a lot of pleasure. And leaves me penniless!
So here is my card to celebrate Rubeena, this wonderful community and the friendships and joy that it creates.
I began by taking a largish panel of Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock and stamping the floral image using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then watercoloured this with Daniel Smith watercolours. I worked in layers to create the depth and I also worked in areas set apart from the previously watercoloured area so I didn’t get any bleeding. But this is an image that can take a little bit of bleeding – it truly is a joy to watercolour. Once the main watercolouring was completed, I added some splatters in black (Gansai Tambi) and a deep pink (Daniel Smith) to add some extra interest.
Once dry, I trimmed the panel down to 7 3/8″ x 4″ and dipped the edges into my Versamark ink pad. I applied gold embossing powder to the edges and heat set.
The panel was added onto a Neenah Solar White base card, which I had cut to the appropriate size for matting, so just a fraction over the size of the watercoloured panel. Next I took some black cardstock and gold heat embossed the sentiment from the set. There are so many sentiments in this set and they mix and match really well. I chose Love & Hugs as it can fit so many occasions. The sentiment was popped onto the panel with foam tape.
To finish the card I added some raindrops from Lucy’s cards. For those of you that follow me regularly you will know that I love watercolouring florals and I do love to add splatters, coincidentally so does Rubeena. So this card is a definite nod to her.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I truly appreciate your visit. If you wish to see more from me then do please subscribe via the link in the right hand column so you don’t miss a post.
Next on the hop is the incredibly talented and lovely Michelle Short, a dear friend of mine, and a fabulous cardmaker.
