Hello there friends
I wasn’t expecting to blog today, but I made a card this afternoon that I rather liked so I thought I would share it with you. Regular readers will know that I don’t like throwing my experiments away, and whilst this background was not really an experiment, it was something that I made ages ago, that I hadn’t used as I just wasn’t sure what to do with it.
For those of you that have worked with Brusho, you will know that it is wonderful but unpredictable and you have to embrace that (if you can!). And wear latex gloves and an apron! I still don’t feel I’ve got to grips with how to use it really but I often think that when you create something you are not sure about, or even don’t like, chop it up or put it behind some die cuts! So here is my card for today.
The background was created by dropping Leaf Green and Lemon Brusho onto some watercolour cardstock and spritzing some water over it. You can add quite a lot of water to the cardstock, but it as I didn’t want to completely dilute the colours and have them merge into each other, I stopped whilst you could still see all the little explosive colours in it! I should have taken a picture of the panel before I put it on the base, but I forgot, or you would see what I am talking about much more easily.
It was relatively simple to create the card, but one important thing to remember is that Brusho, even when dry, still comes off on your hands. It’s possible that you could maybe add some Distress Glaze over the top or even a fixative of some sort, but I haven’t tried that and will remember to do that. So my first attempt got binned as I got some rather yellow fingerprints on my front panel!
I began by taking some Neenah and die cutting the SSS Flower cluster die twice. I then adhered a piece of acetate behind it with Multi Medium Matte – this gives me somewhere to place my die cuts onto. The two flower die cuts were than adhered with wet adhesive onto the acetate. I was very very careful to only add tiny bits of glue so that there was no leakage but really if I had thought ahead, I would have used Stick It.
The Brusho panel was adhered to a base card with DST and then the flower cluster panel on top with foam tape, so there is dimension and it’s nice to be able to see through the acetate window down onto the Brusho. Next I die cut the Thanks sentiment from a grey cardstock and the shadow from vellum. The grey thanks was adhered with wet adhesive to the vellum and then that was popped up with tiny bits of foam tape onto the front panel.
To finish the card, I white heat embossed a sentiment from Big Thanks onto Slate cardstock, trimmed it with the SSS Sentiment Label dies and then glued it flat onto the panel. Some of my favourite Ice Crystal sequins from Lucy’s cards add the little bit of bling that I always love.
So, the moral of the story is, although it might seem a waste to put a whole panel behind some die cuts, it’s way better than throwing it away and in real life, it is so pretty and not overpowering in the way it was as an A2 panel.
I thought I would add this into the SSS Flickr Challenge and also the SSS Wednesday Challenge. That finishes my card for today, but I will be back on Thursday with a little something for you from the new Simon Says Stamp Fresh Bloom release.
Happy crafting!

A beautiful card and a wonderful lesson, Lisa! Fortunately there are so many gorgeous large outline dies on the market now that work like this one and the end result is outstanding! Also very QACAS, which is a bonus!! Hugs, Darnell

Gorgeous card. Love brusho’s but I have runs on using them and then I forget them. Thanks for inspiring me.
Cheers

Really beautiful Lisa ! I understand perfectly your approach because I do exactly the same thing. I have a lot of trouble throwing away (my husband could confirm it!). In any case your Brushos panel is perfect to highlight this very nice SSS die and gives a very springtime look. And as always your design is sublime! Thank you very much for this wonderful inspiration. Hugs

Your design is amazing, Lisa – overlaying your background with this pretty design was a great way to retrieve it! Thanks for sharing it with us at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge!
