Hello there friends
I hope you are all well. Today I thought I would pop in with a card I made earlier this week and shared over on Instagram. I recently watched a video from Jennifer McGuire where she showed how she used her alcohol ink scraps to create some new cards. Well, it got me thinking and I thought I would take a look at my scraps and see if I had any that I could turn into something else.
So here is the card I made. I do apologise that the light is not good here today, the card is very pretty in real life but I don’t think the colours have come through well.
The important thing when using scraps is to try and find some that coordinate well with each other – they will gel better on the finished card. So I dug around and came up with a few ink blended panels and a watercolour panel that had some similar colours albeit more delicate. And I thought I would create a card using the My Favorite Things Grand Greenery dies. So this is how my craft mat looked when I started out.
Out of those three panels I managed to get a good selection of watercolour vs ink blended leaves. The next step was to try and see how I could position them on a panel. I had a basic idea in mind but it took a little bit of fiddling around to get them right and to leave room for a sentiment in the middle.
You can see the reflection of me taking the photo! Once I was happy with their positions, I took a piece of Press N Seal and laid it down over the top, pressed down firmly and picked up all the die cuts. This saves me having to remember how they were positioned on the panel after adding adhesive. Even if I had taken a photo I still wouldn’t have been able to replicate it exactly the same way. So, such a good product to have in your armoury. I don’t use it often but it is great when you want to keep all your die cuts in place.
After picking up the Press N Seal with the dies attached, I turned it over and added wet adhesive to the backs of all the die cuts. All I then needed to do was to turn it back over, lay it over my cardstock and then press down. I applied some pressure to all the die cuts and then peeled off the Press N Seal.
After a few minutes drying time, I trimmed off the excess from the panel and cut the panel to slightly less than A2. It was adhered to the base card with foam tape. As always, I messed around a lot deciding on sentiments and was actually going to stamp a greeting but then I found a MFT Hugs die that I hadn’t used and thought that the negative space would look a bit different as the centrepiece. This was cut from MFT Grout cardstock – a very lovely neutral colour.
I added a few sequins from Lucy’s Cards and that finished the card. It’s really lovely in real life, it’s clean and crisp and the colours look great together. Isn’t it incredible what you can get with stuff you have thrown into a pile. The watercolor panel I used had actually been in my unused pile for 2 years, so it was really great to be able to get something I liked from it. This is why I don’t throw much away!
Why not have a dig around and see what you can come up with – you never know if there is a little gem in waiting. Happy crafting folks, and have a great weekend. Thank you as always for stopping by.
