Hello again crafters! It’s the third day of the teasers for the May release from Clearly Besotted. For my card today, I broke out my Zigs and watercoloured a little scene for you. I have used the very sweet Sitting Here Thinking stamp set. This set has a complete scene image for you to just stamp and colour – no masking required. It also includes six different critters that you can add to your scene, and of course a selection of suitable sentiments. I went with the cat today. I actually coloured the cat and the dog and was going to have them sitting together, in harmony, on the bench, but I didn’t like how I coloured my dog, so he got sent to the bin!
This card was an evolution to say the least. I didn’t want to use Copics today, you get a lot of those! I don’t often colour critters with watercolours as I don’t get the vibrancy I like but of course Zigs are a bit different, they do have some bright colours. So, I went with them and it really does give your card a completely different feel and in the end I loved how it turned out. But it took a while to get to that point….
I began with stamping the main scene image onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black Ink as it is waterproof and I coloured it with Zigs (colours listed below). So you know I mentioned evolution above….. well, here’s the thing. This card started as a square card, with a sentiment stamped in black at the bottom. It then evolved to a square card with a black heat embossed sentiment, and then a square card with a grey heat embossed sentiment. None of which I liked! I should mention here that I didn’t create four different cards, I was just playing around with different sentiment options and not liking any of them. And actually not liking the whole panel at all at that point!
In the end, I chopped the panel down – argggghhhh(!) and popped it behind an oval window. I thought the framing of the scene looked so much better than just a square panel of my colouring! It helps to focus the eye onto the sweet little kitty and gave me a better area for my sentiment.
After chopping, the watercoloured panel was adhered to the base card with DST and then the window panel adhered over it, also with DST. To finish the card, I white heat embossed the sentiment onto SSS Slate cardstock and popped it up with foam tape. There are NO SEQUINS OR SHIMMER! Maybe I am sickening for something? The cat has been fussy cut and outlined with a Memento Tuxedo Black marker for a neat finish. She was popped up with foam tape onto the bench. You will be able to get coordinating dies of course for this set.
So there you have it. I did like it in the end thank goodness! I like the less than perfect watercolouring and I should do it more often. Thank you for bearing with me today. Don’t forget to hop over to Stephanie, Keren and Michelle to see what they made – I’m sure it went quicker than mine! I will see you tomorrow for my final countdown. Happy crafting!

I love how it turned out even if it took a while to get there. The scene is perfect and those Zig coloured trees are amazing! Loads of depth to those. I do love how everyone else colours with Zigs. Just not me! xxx

This is so cute, Lisa! I love your watercolouring, its fantastic! I love how you have added the scene inside the oval, it really does draw your eye in. As you will see tomorrow though, I went with the boring square card idea that you rejected! Haha! xx
