Hello there, welcome back and thank you for joining me! Today I am sharing some cards using MFT stencils, Distress Oxide inks and all things rainbow coloured. A few weeks back, I got my stencils out and thought it would be fun to make some rainbow panels ready to be made into cards.
I had been inspired by a post I saw from Stephanie Klauck who you may know of. She loves to create cards and other projects using rainbow colours. And I had a bunch of MFT stencils waiting for some love.
Three of my cards are birthday cards, but I snuck in an encouragement card as well, as they are always good to have ready. For all my panels I used Distress Oxide Inks and Neenah 80lb cardstock.
First up, the birthday cards.
This card uses the MFT Cascading Scallop stencil. I used a mini round ink blending tool and applied the oxide inks ink, from top to bottom using Picked Raspberry, Festive Berries, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean and Wilted Violet. The panel was trimmed and added to a card base using DST. I then used the MFT Block Happy Birthday die-namic to add in my Happy Birthday. Stick It adhesive was adhered to the back of some black cardstock and I ran it through my machine 3 times so that I would have some dimension. To ensure the letters are evenly spaced, I created a template from white cardstock and then just popped the letters in, stacking them up before removing the template.
I finished by adding some Raindrops from Lucy’s cards and some Tonic Nuvo Aqua Shimmer to the die cut letters, so there is some sparkle.
My second birthday card features the MFT Captivating Mandala Stencil and Salty Ocean, Twisted Citron, Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin and Festive Berries. Not quite a rainbow as I’m missing some colours, but colourful enough!
I trimmed my panel again and matted it onto an A2 horizontal top folding base card. The card base is SSS Audrey Blue (such a beautiful blue). I took the “Wishes” sentiment from MFT Best Wishes, die cut it three times and adhered the layers together using a Quickie Glue Pen and then onto the panel with Multi Medium Matte. The “birthday” comes from MFT Essential Sentiments – I masked off the “happy” part of the sentiment as I only wanted the birthday portion. This was stamped onto black cardstock and white heat embossed, trimmed and popped up with foam tape. Some Ice Crystal sequins were added and also some Tonic Nuvo Aqua Shimmer to the letters.
My final birthday card uses the MFT Circle Burst stencil.
I used the same inks as my first card and applied them from outer to inner circle. I trimmed this panel and matted it onto some black glitter cardstock (so pretty – and I had forgotten I had it!), and then onto a pink top folding notecard. I stamped a sentiment from MFT Big Birthday Wishes using Versamark Ink onto black cardstock, added Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.
I then rummaged around for a while to find some gold thread to go behind it. I couldn’t find any but I did find some gold wire, so I cut a length, wound it around four fingers and then laid it onto the panel. The sentiment has foam tape on the back and was placed over the top, pressed down and that secured the wire in place. I actually think I prefer the wire to a loose thread as it holds its shape a lot lot better.
My final rainbow panel became an encouragement card. I used the same inks as cards 1 and 3 and this time used the MFT Full Of Hearts Stencil.
Apologies my photo is slightly wonky! The trimmed down panel was matted onto black and then onto a notecard. I took three greetings from MFT From Me To You and MFT Essential Sentiments and white heat embossed them. They were trimmed and foam tape applied to the back. As this is a very busy background with three sentiments, I thought I would include a vellum heart to soften the area behind the sentiments. I used my Hero Arts Nesting Heart Dies for that. I popped the three greetings on the vellum heart, and then added wet adhesive on the back behind the greetings, to adhere it down onto the panel. Lastly I added some Raindrops from Lucy’s Cards for a bit of extra interest.
So that finishes all four cards. I really enjoyed my stencil playtime and it’s always nice to actually make your finished panels into finished cards. I hope that this inspires you to get inky with your stencils. I always love pulling the stencil up and seeing what lies beneath. It’s like removing a mask from a stamped panel – magical.
Thank you for joining me today. Have a wonderful weekend!

They are all so beautiful especially in the rainbow colours. I know how much you love stencils and it shows. It gives such a nice background that you only need a few little touches to make the final card. So glad you had a good play!
