It’s day three of the Clearly Besotted countdown teasers already! Today’s card features another fun critter set – this time we have some rockin’ and rollin’ armadillos! The set is aptly named Rock N Roll and again is a larger set containing 5 armadillos in varying poses plus a plethora of desert scene building options. For today’s card I went with the main scene building image (love that I don’t have to mask too much!)
I stamped the main desert scene image onto some Neenah and then also stamped it onto some masking paper so that I could do some background blending. I used Dried Marigold, Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Inks. The Dried Marigold and Tumbled Glass are not colours that naturally blend together, so you get a slight greenish tinge where they overlap. But I didn’t mind that, I didn’t want a perfect sky, I wanted it to look slightly wispy and uneven.
Next I set about colouring the desert scene with Copics (numbers listed below). A challenge for me as you know that I love my bright colours and these are much more muted, but it gave me a chance to give some rarely used green Copics a workout. And also to practice colouring sand! After colouring, I trimmed the panel down.
I took an A2 base card and cut most of the front panel away (I left about an inch at the top). I adhered my coloured panel behind the top flap using DST and then adhered the bottom white section to the bottom of my coloured panel. For stability I added another whole white panel onto the back – this also hides the back of the colouring when you open the card.
Using Versafine Onyx Black ink, I took a greeting from the set and stamped it onto the front panel. I then stamped an armadillo and cactus, coloured them and popped them up with foam tape to finish the scene. I did fussy cut my images but there are dies available for this set.
I added some Crystal Glaze to the armadillos head. I have no idea if the top of an armadillos head is shiny or has a shelly part, but we use a lot of artistic license in cardmaking so I went with it! I also added some gloss to the small rocks. And lastly, as I couldn’t bear not to have any pink on my card, I stamped two tiny flowers, coloured them and added them to the cactus!! The cactus also have some sparkle on them courtesy of my Aqua Shimmer pen.
That finishes my card for you today. I will be back tomorrow with my last teaser for you, and it’s one that will have you licking your lips, especially during the summer season. Well, all year round for me….. until then, do hop over to see what Stephanie, Michelle and Keren have made to inspire you. Happy crafting and thank you so much for your visit.
