It’s the final day of my teasers for the September release from Clearly Besotted today. And I am back on a Halloween kick! I thought I would make a box card as I like to give myself a little challenge now and again. It’s been a while since I made one but I thought it would make a fun container for the plethora of Halloween Plushies.
Now these do take a while, it isn’t so much the box that takes long – and this isn’t a tutorial for making the box card, there are lots on YT if you want to create one. But it’s the colouring of images and decisions of what to put where! Not sure I got it entirely right but it’s fun nonetheless.
It all begins in a craft room far far away, with one piece of orange cardstock! From that I created the box itself and the little struts that go inside which you then use to attach your images. After cutting the box shape and doing the relevant scoring etc, whilst the box was still a flat piece of card, I took the new Fright Night Stencil and applied Memento Tuxedo Black ink on all four sides of the base. I had to mask each side each time as the width of the tree section of the stencil is slightly bigger than the side of the card but as I used a dye ink for the inking it didn’t take long for each section to dry once blended. At the same time I also used the bat section of the stencil to do three of the top panels, again with a black dye ink.
A word on the stencil, it has four sections, one is the tree, another the bats, there is a web and also a dripping goo option. So four small stencils in one stencil – great fun! After the stencilling, I adhered the four panels together to form the box shape and then attached the inside struts with strong adhesive. I used a bit of leftover grass that I had from way back (the now retired Garden Fence Die Collection) and I put those on the edge of each strut to add a bit of extra green into the mix.
Next I coloured a ton of images and fussy cut them. In order for them to “fly” out of the container they have little strips of acetate adhered onto the back and then onto the struts in the box. And you have to hold them in place whilst the glue dries – it is a little fiddly as it’s like a game of twister with your fingers holding bits in place! One of them moved a little as it dried but by and large they are where I wanted them!
Once I was happy where everything was, I then heat embossed a sentiment onto a black strip and adhered it to the front panel. You can see the tree stencilling much clearer in the photo above and in real life when you turn the box to the front and see the explosition of flying cuties, it really is a unique card. And great fun to receive too.
I told you that you would need sunglasses – I wasn’t wrong was I?! Do make sure to hop over and see what my lovely teamies have created today – Stephanie, Michelle, Keren and Joy. I always look forward to seeing their projects! I will be back with a release day post tomorrow with links to all the new products. A reminder that the release goes live at 8pm BST over at Clearly Besotted and Simon Says Stamp. Until then, have a great day!

I love how the stencilling came out – it really adds to the whole effect. I actually thought it was patterned paper! Haven’t made one of these in a while but they are fun and effective, especially with such cute images on them xx

Oh this is amazing, Lisa! What a great idea for a box card. Love all the critters jumping out of it and how you have decorated it with the stencil. I particularly like the tree image on the side of the box. That works wonderfully! Love it! xx
