Hello everyone, I am back today to share a card I made using one of the new products from the fabulous Cheer and Joy release from Simon Says Stamp! I am SO looking forward to this release as I know it’s going to contain lots of Christmas fun! I was kindly sent the Christmas Bulbs dies from Simon Says Stamp and have created a CAS Christmas card today. Mostly my Christmas cards are full of inking and often pasting, so it’s relatively unusual to have a CAS one. And a contemporary one at that…
I started off by taking one of the smallest dies from the Christmas Bulbs set and die cut it from seven different coloured cardstocks. I took the same die and die cut seven times from SSS Black Cardstock so I would get the little topper piece for each bulb. And another seven times from white cardstock to get those little “shine/reflection” pieces that will be inlaid into the bulb. I set all the die cut pices to one side and worked on my background.
I masked off a section at the top of a horizontal panel, and in rainbow order, I blended little sections of Distress Ink where I thought each bulb would sit. I started in the middle with the yellow and worked my way out each side so that I fit all the colours in! To blend these small areas, I used a small blending brush as I felt I had more control than with an ink blending tool.
I then took the SSS Holiday Words On A Line and die cut the Merry Christmas from SSS Black Card. This was adhered at the top of the blended section – I used a spray adhesive as it’s a very delicate line and I probably would have lost my mind putting little dots onto it! To assemble the rest of the card I put a little piece of DST on the back of each bulb and carefully inlaid the white “shine” pieces. They then had some foam tape added onto the back. Lastly I used some Multi Medium Matte to adhere the black topper portion on each bulb.
The bulbs were then popped up over their respective colour as if they are hanging off the Merry Christmas line. I trimmed the panel slightly and then added it to a base card with a small strip of MFT Black & White Stripes paper underneath. Some Nuvo Aqua Shimmer was added onto all of the bulbs so they have a lovely sparkle.
That finishes today’s card. I hope that you’ll check out the new release and as always there will be a ton of inspiration from all the Simon Says Stamp designers over the coming days. Thank you for joining me today, I hope you have a great week.
