Hello there friends
I have a different look (at least for me) today on my card. Yes it’s another Christmas card, but this time, I decided to try an alternative combination of colours for my scene. Often I create my Christmas cards with blues/purples/pinks in the background but I wanted to try and achieve a gold look. Or at the very least a sepia look! And I thought the deer from Picket Fence’s On A Christmas Walk would look perfect silhouetted against the background.
You decide. What did I get – gold or sepia? What you can’t see is the sparkle that I added but I do think it can pass as gold.
To create the snowy background, I took the Heffy Doodle First Snow stencil out of my folder. This stencil has two uses, first you can use it for snowfall but it also has edges that create snow banks – great stencil! I laid this over my cardstock and then placed a circle mask just above it to create the illusion of a moon. I blended Frayed Burlap, Old Paper and Antique Linen Distress Inks from bottom upwards and I also blended a slightly heavier layer of Old Paper around the circle edges. I removed the circle mask and added a little bit of Antique Linen over it so that it wouldn’t be stark white.
Next I took the same stencil and created a second snow bank under the first. For this section I just blended a tiny amount of Frayed Burlap and made sure to leave some white space above it. I love how this portion turned out – I didn’t mess up the blending for once, I used a very light hand! I flicked some water droplets over the panel and picked them up with a paper towel and then put the panel in a box and sprayed it with some Sparkle Shimmer Spritz and left it to dry.
Once dry, I took the panel and stamped a sentiment from The Season of Giving onto it using MFT Hybrid Steel Grey Ink and then adhered that flat to the base card. I stamped and coloured the deer (Copic numbers listed below) and die cut them with the coordinating dies. The deer were then popped up with foam tape. At this point I thought I would actually put some snowfall in, so I just added lots of dots with a white gel pen. Then I decided to add a little bit more sparkle, so I took my Stardust Gelly Roll Pen and added little dots over the blended area – not too many though, just enough to give it some detail in the light. You can’t see it in the pictures but it’s sparkly and pretty in real life and I actually think could pass as a masculine Christmas card. To finish I added some Black Glaze Pen onto the deers eyes and hooves.
I really liked how this turned out. I always enjoy finding a new combination of colours and giving a completely different look to my cards. Thank you for joining me today, I hope you have a wonderful week. Happy crafting!
