How is everyone today? Don’t feel like colouring? No, neither did I today. But I did fancy a play in the craft room and I have had this SSS Pretty Peonies background stamp sitting around for far too long. A few distress inks is all you need to add some colour and make some quick cards. Easy to mass produce too and you can make them different by switching your colours. So easy!
Step-by-Step
- Take the pad out of your MISTI and lay the background stamp down with the image facing up towards you.
- Add Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon and Fossilised Amber Distress Inks randomly over the stamp.
- Spritz lightly with water. You don’t want to over water or your image won’t be very clear. That happened on one of my panels – it still looks pretty but just isn’t quite as defined. I used the Tonic Nuvo Light Mist Spray bottle for my panels as it really is a lovely light mist and just did two spritzes on one panel and three on the one where the image is not quite as defined.
- Take a panel of Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor cardstock and lay it down on the top of the inked stamp, being careful not to move it as you set it down. Close your MISTI lid and then press down firmly and evenly over the lid. This helps the ink to transfer well onto the cardstock.
- Take out your panel and let it dry. Simple! Then repeat as many times with as many colours as you want.
- I trimmed both my panels slightly and mounted them onto A2 top folding base cards with DST.
- The sentiments are from SSS Tiny Words and were heat embossed in white on black cardstock, and gold on pink cardstock. These were popped up with foam tape.
- Add a few sequins to give a little extra interest.
I haven’t done this technique in ages. It’s always fun experimenting with your different inks to see what combinations you like. And did you know that Tim Holtz is releasing some new Distress Ink colours? Speckled Egg is the first one and it looks lovely.
And there was me thinking that I had the full set. It’s the only full set I have of anything at all and now it isn’t full any more! I need to go shopping….. Enjoy your weekend whatever you are upto.

This technique makes the prettiest of both bespoke background panels and stand alone panels like you’ve created today.
Love the colours in your card and great to see you posting again.
Hope the creation of your new crafting studio is going well.
