Hello friends! I hope you are all well out there. Today I have a birthday card for you. For those of you that watch my haul videos, then you will know that a few months ago, I picked up the lovely Flora Background stamp from Simon Says Stamp. This stamp has been out for a while now but I really loved it so picked it up at my last shop.
Today I thought I would do some pencil colouring.
Well, I thought I wanted to do pencil colouring but when I started I wasn’t sure I could face doing the whole thing! I started off by white heat embossing the stamp onto a dark navy cardstock. I heat set it and then started the colouring. As with most of my pencil colouring, I laid down a layer of white before adding my colour. I did that on the first flower and then again on the second flower, and then went ahead and just coloured everything white to save time swapping pencils in between!
Pinks used: Magenta, Middle Purple Pink and Pink Madder Lake.
And as I was adding the pinks on top of the white, I thought it would be nice to leave some of the blooms in white and just have some in colour. Well that was my excuse for not colouring the whole thing (lazy!) but I did think it looked really pretty as the white flowers look a little transparent. It did still probably take me about half an hour though to colour all the pink bits! I got some pink pencil on my white embossing so went over those sections with a white gel pen. If I had thought ahead I would have left the stamp in the MISTI and stamped and re-embossed the outline again once finished as it does make it look tidier.
I then took the same navy cardstock and white heat embossed the “happy” from SSS Happy three times, and then the birthday from the same set underneath. I trimmed the cardstock down and adhered it with foam tape onto my coloured panel. This was then adhered to a white base card and I called it done.
It’s been absolutely ages since I coloured on dark cardstock and I forget how striking the end result is! Do you like to pencil colour? Or do you give up like I did?! I always love the idea but time seems so short these days and I always seem in a rush. Even in semi lockdown! Have a fabulous day everyone and stay safe! xx

This is beautiful, Lisa! I love the navy and pink together – so pretty! I think it looks really effective that you kept some of the flowers white. You would have never known that that wasn’t your intention! xx
