Good afternoon crafty friends, how are we all this afternoon? Another week has whizzed by and before I know it, I am wondering what on earth I am going to write about! I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to focus, there are so many cards out there to inspire, and I have so many ideas, but when I sit down, I think, what next?
So, I thought about trying to put together a card with a feature focal frame, using this card as inspiration. Well you can see that what I have produced is nothing like it! Here is my card for today.
Made with the wonderful Clearly Besotted Miniature Florals, which I just don’t use enough (like all my supplies!). Fortunately, I had previously coloured one of the flowers during the colour challenge in February using Derwent Inktense Pencils. So I stamped up a couple more onto waterproof paper using Archival Jet Ink black ink as it is a waterproof ink.
I worked in layers to create the flowers, using just three colours, predominantly Violet with touches of Peacock Blue for the petals and Leaf Green for the stem. I work in layers, using very little water so that they dry quickly and I can then apply more colour, building it up as I go. I still have a lot to learn with this technique, but I do enjoy it.
Once I had finished colouring, I die cut the florals, left them to dry and set about making the frame. The idea was to make a square porthole (you know what I mean….), but I was rubbing out pencil on my second frame when of course I got carried away, split the frame and crumpled it. Abandon ship! So I simplified it somewhat, cut the frames and popped them up using foam adhesive.
I then spent an inordinate amount of time positioning them (yes, really) and wishing yet again, I had thought about where to put the sentiment, or even what it might be! Once I was happy with the placement, I adhered two of the florals using double sided tape, popped the front one up with foam adhesive and stamped the sentiment to the right. I liked how it ended up, but I cannot tell you how long it takes me to decide on design, and I must learn to do this earlier on in the process!
Finally, I added a touch of shimmer in places on the petals. I thought about adding a few sequins, but decided less is more.
I hope you like the card, comments as always, are always welcome and appreciated. Have a great day!
