Hello crafters, happy Tuesday to you all and I hope you all had a great weekend – yes I know you have probably forgotten about it by now…. but it’s only 3 full days until the next one! My weekend was lovely, my parents came up to stay for a few days, and we spent most of Saturday driving around the East End of London, revisiting the places from my dad’s youth. As this was some time ago, many places did not bear any resemblance to those earlier years, but we did manage to find a few buildings untouched and it was lovely to hear him tell us the stories behind those places. I digress, but standing by the Old Ford Lock (now overshadowed by the Olympic Stadium) hearing how his Aunt had held him as a baby in her arms, watching the sky lit up in red during the blitz, was quite emotional for all of us. A special day.
Moving on….today I am sharing a card featuring a new My Favorite Things background stamp called Etched Flower, which I was very lucky to win recently on Instagram to celebrate the new MFT release. How lucky was I!
Here is my card for today.
Now, here’s the thing. I didn’t really know what I was doing when I started this card. I knew I wanted gold embossing. And I knew I wanted to do some watercolour. So, I started by stamping the background using Versamark ink and then I heat embossed it with Hero Arts Gold Embossing powder. I pulled out my Gansai Tambi paints and picked three colours that I hoped would work together (I do have swatches which helps a lot!). I literally just put a bit of each three colours on a white ceramic tile and watered them down and started to paint the flowers.
There is no rhyme or reason to my painting. I am not sure whether the colours are in the right places according to the flowers or not, but I loved how this turned out! It’s quite an unusual design for me. I like bright colours normally and these colours are pretty muted but I think they go well with the gold, and each other.
I thought that a black background would make the panel pop and then I set about finding the right sentiment. This of course, is always my last consideration (do I ever learn?), but voila, there was a perfect sentiment in my Mama Elephant Make A Wish stamp set. The right words and font and size! This makes me happy.
So, I heat embossed the sentiment onto black paper and added a few stars to give it a bit of added interest. This gold is amazing on black, it is such a rich gold. I then mounted the watercoloured panel onto the black paper mat and the whole kaboodle onto a 6″ x 6″ cream hammer card. I love cream bases for cards with gold elements, as I always feel white is too stark. You can see the gold heat embossed flowers better in the card below, but the light is poor at the end of the day, so apologies for the photos.
I fiddled around trying to decide if I should put some sequins on and then decided against it. I thought it should stand as it is.
I would love to hear what you think of the card. Thank you so much for stopping by, I appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog.
