Good morning, afternoon, or evening, wherever you are! I hope you are all well.
Today I am sharing a birthday card I have made for one of my crafty friends. Here is my card for today:
The card began with a random afternoon’s colouring of a lovely little mermaid image from The Greeting Farm which my crafty friend Steph has loaned to me for a few weeks :). At the time I just coloured her without knowing what I would do with her (not unusual for me!). She was coloured with Copics, and I added little white dots with my gelly roll pen and some shimmer to areas of her body and tail. The shimmer brush is fantastic for adding some bling, but the little white dots really do help give the illusion of sparkle, and I just concentrated them in the areas where there are folds. Tiny dabs of glossy accents were added to the beads in her hair.
Then, over the course of a few hours, I had an idea to create a card with a wave pattern stencilled into the background. To create this, I took my base card, and then masked off a circular area, laid down my wave stencil and then set to work with my texture paste, always good fun. I created four different “sea-coloured” pastes using Distress Inks and then applied them over the stencil, and left the card to dry overnight.
By the time the morning came I had decided to go one step further and create a shaker. So I cut another white panel and die-cut the stitched circle, added some acetate and double sided foam tape to the back to create the shaker portion. The circular window also looks a little bit like a port hole, always good for a nautical/sea theme. I then sprinkled a selection of sequins onto the waved area and popped the shaker panel on the top. Voila!
All that was left for me to do was adhere the mermaid to the side and then stamp my sentiment onto a stitched circle and adhere that to the other side using double sided foam tape.
I really love how this turned out. It is my first use of a Greeting Farm stamp, and I have to say, these images are really lovely to colour. It won’t be my last I am sure! Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you have a great week.
