Good morning friends!
I am back today with a birthday card for a crafty friend. I have been busy putting my birthday gifts to good use and decided to make a zipper card.
Here is my card
To make the background, I used Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock. I started by heat embossing the sentiment with white embossing powder and then I did a little ink smooshing with Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks. To do the smooshing, all you need to do is lay some of the ink down onto a ceramic tile/acrylic block, spritz with water, take a piece of acetate, pick up some of the ink and smoosh it down onto the paper. You can move it around a little and create puddles of ink however you feel best. It’s a great technique as no two backgrounds are ever the same. I did this a couple of times, heat setting in between until I was happy with how it looked.
I then took the Zipper die from Mama Elephant, adhered it to my cardstock and ran it through my die-cutter. What a fun die this is although I have to admit to minor heart palpitations thinking about one of my cards being ripped to shreds just to see the message inside! Deep breath! I stamped the “Open Here” and arrow in Versafine Onyx Black ink just so the recipient knows what they need to do :). Next I coloured two of the little Mama Elephant girlfriends with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens and set them aside to dry.
I took a strip of pink cardstock and drew some pencil lines to indicate where I needed to stamp the hidden sentiment. I did this by measuring where the zipper section sat on the front panel and replicating it on the pink card. On the pink cardstock, I stamped my sentiment in Versamark ink and heat embossed in white powder. You can’t of course see it here, but it will be revealed when the zipper is pulled back. At least I hope! This all depends on me measuring correctly!
I finished the card by adhering the two girlfriends with double sided foam tape onto the panel, adhering the pink hidden sentiment cardstock to the back of the watercolor cardstock and then the whole lot was added to a base card with some craft foam to give it some dimension. And of course a few sequins because… why not!
I hope that my friend enjoys opening her card. It’s a little bit different, but fun. And as I enjoyed making it so much, I purchased the Christmas sentiment set that will work perfectly with the zipper. How could I resist?
Thank you for stopping by, I always love to hear your comments. Have a wonderful week and I will be back soon with another project.

I’m so sorry to be so late in my comment ! I love your cute card and your smooshing is so beautiful ! it is true that each time it’s different ! You never imagine how your smooshing will be, so it’s always a surprise ! I totally understand what Katrine says, and I’m like her, moreover my wish list is so long that there are many other dies that I want before getting this one (i’m sure that is the excuse I found !). As usual a fabulous card and you did well by adding sequins, it’s the perfect final touch ! Thanks for your warm comment on my blog. Thanks so much for sharing and for inspiring xx

Now you understand my reluctance with the Pop Up Dies – trepidation over putting it in the right place. I’m hoping the recipient told you that it was all fine and they loved it, because how could you not. I ADORE ink smooshing and you chose some gorgeous colours for it. I’ve tried it with added shimmer pen and that is a lot of fun. Your girls are so perfectly placed, it works so fantastically well on this card – I always envy how your placement looks so flawless. And you can of course use sequins even if they are not there to cover up a mistake….. xxx

Haha! Emotionally attached is so true. I realised that I just needed to let it go as when it leaves me it is all nice and intact, the other person has to look at a ripped up card!
