Hello friends
A quick post for you today. I decided at the last minute to take the latest Online Card Classes class – Simply Watercolor. Kristina Werner is teaching this class and it is all about watercoloring without using stamps and dies. You need to create your own patterns, critters etc by freehand or using other means to help you.
For today’s card, I took one of the lessons from Day 1 and reproduced Kristina’s card.
For this card, you draw grid lines with a pencil and then watercolour them, leaving a few free for your sentiment.
It sounds simple, but I am not overly confident with mixing colours and drawing without black lines!! I used my Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolours which had barely been used since I got them. There are 12 pans of colour and from that I created all the different shades in the grid by mixing colour. I used a Ranger No. 4 Round Brush to colour the squares.
I trimmed the panel down at the end so that it would fit an A2 base card. The sentiment area was created by using a black Sharpie to colour two blocks and then I handwrote the Hello greeting using a White Gel Pen. This may look easy to many people but I NEVER handwrite a greeting on a card, it absolutely terrifies me, so I drew feint pencil lines onto the black before I added the gel pen on top.
Lastly, I drew a few stars and added a few dots with a Copic Multiliner to finish the card. It was popped onto the panel with foam tape.
It’s not perfect, but then its handmade so it shouldn’t be. And at the end, despite its quirks in the painting, I still like it and feel pleased with it. It’s good to get out of your comfort zone, and the classes often make me do that. And it’s quite different – the feeling of satisfaction that you have created something completely from scratch!
Wishing you all a lovely evening, I hope you get some crafting in and I thank you as always for your visit.

It’s absolutely perfect Lisa! It’s exactly as it should be which is wonderfully watercoloured, fluid, rainbow and patterned. It’s like a rainbow watercolour quilt of happiness for someone. I’ve done a bit of hand drawing on cards and it is terrifying, but you felt the fear and did it anyway and it worked out beautifully. You should be so proud of yourself!! xx

Beautiful. I am so intimidated by watercolors. I think I might give this a go. Thanks for the inspiration.

I really like this, it is very effective. It just proves that it is possible to do things freehand and make them look good, well done. x

This is wonderful, Lisa! It is so difficult to make a card with no stamps/dies etc. I love the colours you used on the squares and amazing handwriting for the sentiment xx
