Hello again, today I am back with a simple card for you. Well, simple in design, but not so quick to make! I have had this beautiful Gina K floral stamp called You Make Me Smile in my stash for a while and just hadn’t got around to colouring it. I took it out the other day and thought I would colour it with pencils and have it as the star of the show on my card.
And just to make life a little harder for myself haha, I thought I would have a go at some no line colouring. I am still very new to no line colouring, it makes me a little nervous to be honest but I stamped the image using InkOn3 Fadeout Ink onto SSS Fog cardstock and jumped right in.
I took a selection of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils (listed below) and started to colour. I began with a leaf and I tried two different ways of colouring it – once with white pencil as a base before adding the colour on top and also without any white pencil under the colour at all. I have to say that out of both ways, I did prefer the sections without any white pencil underneath as I felt a got a bit more depth and it felt easier to layer the pencil work. I do believe that some people like the white as it encourages them to leave a highlight if they have white there already but I just generally tried to remember to leave little white bits here and there for extra interest and dimension.
I personally don’t think it really made much difference to the look either but without the white pencil underneath, it felt like my colour grabbed the cardstock more. It reacted better to the “tooth” of the cardstock.
It took me a few days to colour the image, an hour here and there and overall it did take about 2-3 hours but I think it was worth the effort in the end – not perfect but still something I would be happy to send out.
To finish the card I stamped a greeting from the same stamp set uisng MFT Steel Grey Hybrid ink – I felt it was a softer look than a harsh black sentiment. The panel was trimmed with a HA Rectangle Infinity die and mounted with foam tape onto a white top folding base card.
And that finishes today’s card. I hope that you like it – such a pretty image, it would look lovely in any medium I think but there is something about pencils that gives a softness like no other. Thank you for joining me today, I will be back soon with another project for you. Have a great week and happy crafting!
