Hello there, today I have a couple of cards for you where I have ink blended in the centre of the panel and stencilled over the top. I love the look of white space all around the outside of the images. I think it really makes them pop. The stencils add a little bit more interest too. For both of my cards I am using two sets from the new Clearly Besotted release.
To get the soft blending in the middle of the card, you need to make sure you tap off almost all of your ink before you bring the blending tool to the paper and use a very very light hand. Start to build your layers up until you get the depth you want. I used a Tim Holtz Mini Ink Blending tool for both of my cards. Lots of people are now using the blending brushes but I don’t have those yet – they will also work well for this technique as they are designed to add soft layers to your projects.
For this card I used Squeezed Lemonade, Festive Berries and Mustard Seed Distress Inks and I then I took the Snow Day Stencil and stencilled the same colours through it. The sentiment is from Feeling Sentimental – so many great all occasion sentiments in this set. The little dog in the stocking was created using Pop Up Plushies and Pop Up Props. Pop Up Plushies has a ton of images that you can then pair with the Pop Up Props – so much fun! I stamped and masked the dog, then stamped the stocking over the top, so his little paws are holding onto the top. It was then coloured with Copics and fussy cut. I added Shimmer of course and some Stardust stickles onto the top and top of the stocking. So it really twinkles in real life.
My next card uses the same technique but different colours, stencil and images.
For this card I used Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and applied the soft layers to the centre of my panel until I was happy with how deep the colour had gone. I took the Honeycomb Crunch stencil and blended the same colours through again. The lid was stamped and masked, the cat then stamped and masked, and finally the teapot stamped at the end.
I coloured the images with Copics and fussy cut it. The sentiment is from Laugh Out Loud. Of course there is a little shimmer on the teapot and black glaze pen on the eyes.
I really liked how both these cards came out and I have another Christmas card ready to go!
