Today I am back with a couple of cards for you featuring a super new stencil from the latest release from Simon Says Stamp. The release launches today and is called Send Happiness and from what I have seen so far, it is definitely making me happy for sure! I was kindly send a stencil called In The Round and I have used it in two different ways – once with Nuvo Glacier Paste, the other card using a basic traditional stencilling method with some Distress Inks.
Here is my first card.
I will try to keep the blog post short as there are two cards today. This one was created by randomly applying two colours of Nuvo Glacier Paste – Frostbite and Golden Era, through the stencil with a palette knife. No rhyme or reason, just tried to balance the mix across the panel. If you could see the sparkle in real life of this paste – it is GORGEOUS! Lots of tiny mica pigments in it which really make it so pretty but very hard to capture in a photo.
I tried to not put too much paste on as I used a black cardstock and I didn’t want it to warp. After it had dried, I simply adhered it to a black base card before adding my sentiment fom Big Thanks which was gold heat embossed onto black cardstock and then popping my Big Thanks die cut on the top with foam tape. The Thanks die is cut from a gold glitter paper. I think this would make a great New Year’s card actually as the circles could resemble champagne bubbles! But really it can suit any occasion.
For my second card I used a selection of Distress Inks to create a rainbow strip. First of all I die cut the Hugs die out of masking paper and then laid that down over a panel of white cardstock. I blended my inks over the top so the “Hugs”, is actually flat on the inked panel, but you could inlay it if you want or just pop it up over an inked panel.
I then laid the stencil over the top of the inked panel and blended through with the same colours and finally removed the mask. The effect is much more subtle as the circles are overlaying an already inked panel. There are so many things you can do with stencils like this – they lend themselves to many techniques with sprays, pastes, colouring mediums.
I adhered the inked panel directly onto a card base and slipped a little black and white paper underneath to tie it in with the black and white sentiment which is from SSS Tiny Words and is popped up with foam tape. I added a few sequins from Studio Katia to finish the card off. It’s gorgeous in real life as it’s so bright and cheerful.
So that finishes my cards for today. I hope that you enjoyed taking a look at them and do hop over to see what else is in the Send Happiness release. I will be back tomorrow with the start of the Clearly Besotted countdown teasers. Until then, happy shopping and happy crafting!
